Main Street Abbey is the ultimate wedding venue in St. Louis area. Nestled on historic Main Street in the small town of Columbia, IL. We are conveniently located just minutes outside of St. Louis, Mo. Built in 1866, the Abbey has a long and glowing history of serving the community and continues this tradition as a newly renovated event venue. As part of the effort to preserve the original architecture of the Abbey Morris Cathedral, the stained glass , cathedral ceilings, and existing wood workings were handled with white glove service. The Abbey features many venue amenities to complement your event such as outdoor terrace and patio, private bridal suite, private grooms room , parlor, coat room and private parking.

Your Venue Coordinator is responsible for organizing the vision you see for your Special Day. Collaborating with all your vendors, creating layouts, and helping you walk down the aisle are some of the important duties she is tasked with. Her top priority is making your Big Day a day to remember and that starts with the Venue. She works hand and hand with the staff to carry out the Best Day Ever!

History

Main Street Abbey History Time Line.

  • 1863: Henry Schumacher Purchases Land

  • 1866: Construction of the church begins

  • 1873: The congregation completions after 7 years building themselves

  • 1874: First church building converted into school

  • 1904: Church undergoes remodeling and improvements

  • 1909:Addition of brick nave doubles size of church

  • 1927: Rectory fire causes loss of all church records

  • 1946: New Parish celebrates church centennial

  • 2016: Church restoration and renovations begin

  • 2018: Church renovation completed as Main Street Abbey
